On Sunday, April 22, CBS “60 Minutes” broadcast a 14-minute segment that is bound to receive more “comments” than many of their other topics.
The exodus from the Holy Land of Palestinian Christians could eventually leave holy cities like Jerusalem and Bethlehem without a local Christian population. Bob Simon reports.
Here is a link to Christians of the Holy Land.
This is an excellent segment on what life is like for the Christians in the Holy Land – even though it only gives us a small “peek”. There is a little more available at 60minutesovertime.com – well worth watching. Note the awful “wall” and the yellow license plates on the cars waiting at the checkpoints. The plates identify the occupants as Palestinians and strongly restrict their movement and hinder and sometimes stop their ability to get around the country. I believe we would call those plates “profiling” in our country, but this is only one detriment and humiliation these people have to live with everyday.
Carol – Actually, the “yellow” license plate is Israeli. However, license plates, identity cards and travel permits do identify those who are Palestinians, so what you write about “restricting” and “hindering” and “stopping” – and the humiliation of Palestinians – is accurate. You have been to the Holy Land, and have seen the situation, and have heard from some of the Palestinians themselves. Let us continue to hope for peace, justice and security for all occupants of the Holy Land. – Father Rob
